Pumpkin pie spice is a spice blend that is most commonly used in fall baking. A mixture of warm spices that adds great flavor to cakes, cupcakes, pies, cookies, and all things delicious in the fall and winter months!
What is Pumpkin Pie Spice?
Pumpkin pie spice is a blend of warm spices. There are only 5 ingredients!
These spices can be found in the spice/baking aisle of your grocery store. You can buy these spices whole and grind them yourself for the freshest flavor. But, I find it easier, faster, less messy, and more convenient to just purchase them pre-ground for me. I have not had any problems with dull flavor in ground spices. I’m all about the shortcuts.
Spices, however, do have a shelf life. Over time, they do lose their flavor and aroma. I typically recommend a shelf life of about 6 months or so for spices for the best results. Although, I do have a jar of cardamom that has been sitting in there for years and it still tastes a-ok to me!
Using Pumpkin Pie Spice
This spice blend is not just for pie! It is a very versatile spice blend that can be used in all kinds of baking. Due to the flavor profile, it usually pairs well with fall and winter flavors.
